We often spend the majority of my our lives gasping. Why is that? We don’t have to. It is time to breathe again…..
Life is easy.
September 18, 2010A healthy newborn is the embodiement of bliss. An infant has few desires or needs, and those they do have are met relatively easy: air; water; food; clothing; love. They are not grasping for the next moment of satisfaction or relief. They are present each moment. This state is fleeting. Memory gives us great potential, but it can also cripple us. What do we “need“?
As we move through our experience, we associate feelings with events. Memories make us who we think we are. The truth is, however, we are the same person now that we were on the day we were born. It is our memories that confuse us. We are the same bliss filled being; only memories, which create desires and fears, confuse our image of who/what we think we are.
Life for most of us is not a struggle for survival. Consumable food is readily available. The water/diamond paradox is still relevant. And somewhat breathable air is abundant.
Regardless, we struggle and grasp for what we think we need. Strip away all the nonsense and excess, the marketing designed to make you think that you are not perfect, the expectations of society and family, and there is really not all that much that you need. I am not advocating a monastic lifestyle. I am just suggesting that we become aware of what we really need. No instructions on how to live are necessary because we know how already, but a reminder of that fact can be helpful.
